how do we know who's here?

can you tell if anyone else is online when you are on this site?
On other sites you've made I could tell who was online whan I am. Here I don't notice it.  I know we don't have instant messaging, but... we could post on a topic and someone could answer in that place.  Like their personal space.  Am I just not seeing this?

YOu can click on users in the main menu. Users currently online are listed above the newest members.
