High Altar
written for a friend..but commentary still welcome
High Altar
I live to swim
with the minnows
in shallows of shadow
In shaded
sweet crooks
of the river’s side
To dance
from her banks
over forest floor’s fragrance
And on
to the deep wood
by zephyrs I’ll ride
To spin
in the coolness
of dusky sharp wetness
Look up
to the dapple
of light twirling high
Slow spiral
in circles
of lucid abandon
And nakedly
marvel as
leaves merge with sky
Then stopping
abruptly
I see you before me
We smile
as the woods ring
with laughter’s light peal
I’ll lift you
up lightly
to nature’s high altar
By this
my dear friend
I know truly its real
I live to swim
with the minnows
in shallows of shadow
In shaded
sweet crooks
of the river’s side
To dance
from her banks
over forest floor’s fragrance
And on
to the deep wood
by zephyrs I’ll ride
To spin
in the coolness
of dusky sharp wetness
Look up
to the dapple
of light twirling high
Slow spiral
in circles
of lucid abandon
And nakedly
marvel as
leaves merge with sky
Then stopping
abruptly
I see you before me
We smile
as the woods ring
with laughter’s light peal
I’ll lift you
up lightly
to nature’s high altar
By this
my dear friend
I know truly its real
The cadence, imagery, word choice, everything in this poem adds up to a beautiful piece of work. I'm impressed.
