001 Blessing for one in Hospital
May the Good Lord be with you
as much in the emergency room
as in the lofty cathedral
as much in the face of busy strangers
as in the glittering altar image of Christ
as much in gifts of fruit and flowers
as in the blessed Eucharist
as much in gatherings around your bed
as in the great congregations
as much in drear days of medical routine
as in the great Easter celebration
as much in discordant monitors
as in massed angelic choirs
as much in those who professionally care
as in those you long to be with
May the Good Lord be with you
May the Good Lord always be with you
May the Good Lord be with you now
I love, love, love this. I used to work as an RN in oncology . . . and longed for, actually knew that the holy was there, but so, so hard to connect to it with the sounds of the monitors and IV's and busy nurses station and tears, and rises and falls of laughter, and sometimes, screams. How I could envision a patient receiving this poem on a card, to help them find the holy in that environment, too. Thank you for writing this.
