The Second Simian Contest
$100 Grand Prize!
This year Shakespeare’s Monkeys are looking for the best poem of the year and it might be yours. Continuing with the Second Simian, a poem will win $100 USD, and qualify for the finals in December – and another $100 prize.
There are no limits on theme or form. The most important aspects of all entries is originality and artistic merit.
Poetry Contest Rules:
1. Send up to 3 poems of no more than 25 lines to submissions@shakespearesmonkeys.com and a $5 (US Dollars) entry fee via paypal to Stephan@anstey.org . [If you do not have paypal, please contact me and i'll provide a mailing address]
2. Poems must not have been published previously or have won any prize in any previous competition of any kind. You do not need to be an unpublished poet, but the poems you submit must be unpublished. [Self-published is published.]
3. Poems must not be entered in any other contest, nor simultaneously offered elsewhere for publication.
4. Poems will be judged on literary merit.
5. Entries must received on or before Aug 24, 2007. Multiple entries may be submitted, but no more than 3 per $5 entry fee.
6. Winners will be announced publicly on September 1, 2007 on our web site at: http://www.shakespearesmonkeys.com
7. By accepting a prize, any winner of a cash prize authorizes Shakespeare’s Monkeys to use the winning entry in print and on site in perpetuity. All poets retain copyright and all other publication rights to their work. We place no restrictions on the rights of winners to publish or sell their work elsewhere following the announcement of prizes.
8. Prizes will sent by first class postal mail. Payments are made by international postal money order so that prizes may be cashed at a post office by the winners without bank charges being assessed. Winners need not be in attendance at the prize announcements to receive their prizes. Prizes are paid in American dollars. ALL PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED.
9. Entrants do not need membership to Shakespearesmonkeys.com, nor do members of the site receive any benefit in judging or entry.
10. Poems will be judged blindly by the editorial board of Shakespeare’s Monkeys. The judges will have no knowledge of the identity of the poet for any poem.
