Shakespeare's Monkeys

Infinite Monkeys. Infinite Typewriters.

The Personal Space of Norman Milliken «   Poetry «

on Mount Nebo

on Mount Nebo

Moses sat with God
and talked
about the promised land.

"I thought it was
the water from stone.
We were so thirsty.
I wrote that down.
The future will remember
disobedience.

And then
I conjectured stupidity,
that I was just
lost.
You could have pointed me,
parted the wilderness."

they sat like brothers.
God didn't speak.

"They think
I'm still strong,
that my eyes aren't gone.
I'm old. I can hardly see
my next step.

So, tell me,
are there trees there
across the Jordan?"

and though God was silent,
there were trees.

it was
the promised land.

I like the idea of God speaking with silence. I meditate on that a lot.

I do, too.

Now THIS one is outstanding. Simple yet profound. (may I put it in our next church newsletter? I will post you a copy or two if you give me your address, though we can't offer to pay you.)

Thanks Norm. You're a star

I read this poem out to my son (over 23 like all of yours) and he too rates this very highly. Just thought you'd like to know.
